In this article, I will give you a complete Syllabus, Exam Pattern, and Salary of GDS(Gramin Dak Sevak) to MTS(Multi Tasking Staff), Postman, Mail Guard, Postal Assistant(PA), and Sorting Assistant(SA) in PDF.

The GDS can't be directly promoted as it is an extra-departmental post. GDS needs to appear and pass this departmental examination to get promoted to the above posts.

Exam Pattern of GDS to MTS/POSTMAN/MAILGAURD/POSTAL ASSISTANT(PA)/SORTING ASSISTANT(SA):

Candidates need to pass a total of 3 Papers i.e. Paper-I, Paper-II, and Paper-III

GDS/MTS TO POSTMAN/MAILGUARD SHORT NOTES FOR DEPARTMENTAL EXAM

Paper-I is MCQ(Multiple Choice Questions) type, Paper-II is MCQ and Subjective type, and Paper-III is taken on the computer.

Paper-I divided it into 2 parts i.e. PART I and PART II. The maximum mark for this paper is 150. The time duration of this paper is 90 Minutes.

The maximum mark for Paper-II is 50 and the time duration is 60 minutes.

Paper-III is taken on a computer and the maximum marks are 25 and the time duration is 15 minutes.

All these papers are bilingual i.e. Hindi, English, and local language where Hindi is not the local language.

The minimum qualifying marks for SC/ST is 33%, for OBC it is 37% and for other categories, it is 40%.

Pattern and Syllabus for Appointment as Postman and Mailguard through competitive Examination limited to MTS and GDS

Paper-I:

The Paper-I of this exam consists of two parts i.e. Part A and Part B. Maximum marks for PART A is 100 and consist of 50 questions of 2 mark each. The maximum marks for PART B are 50 and consist of 25 questions of 2 marks each.

PAPER-III [15 Minutes]

Paper-III is Data Entry Skill Test(DEST). The maximum mark of this paper is 25. It is a skill test of data entry for 15 minutes on a computer on the same day (Date entry of 1000 key depressions).

Qualifying marks for computer-based DEST is for SC/ST IS 65%, for OBC/EWS is 70%, for PWD(if not exempted for skill test) is 65% and General is 75%.



Pattern and Syllabus of Competitive Examination limited to Postman/Mailguard/MTS/GDS for Appointment as Postal Assistant and Sorting Assistant.

There is a total of 3 Papers i.e. Paper-I, Paper-II, and Paper-III. Paper I is competitive, Paper-II and Paper III are qualifying types.

Paper-I is based on Multiple Choice Questions, Paper-II is Multiple choice questions and subjective and Paper-III is held on Computer.

The maximum marks of Paper-I are 100 which is divided into 2 parts, Paper II is 50 Marks and Paper III is 25 Marks.

The time duration for Paper-I is 120 Minutes, Paper-II is 45 Minutes and Paper-III is 15 Minutes.

Examination for Paper-I and Paper-II will be conducted in continuity. Thereafter, Paper III that is DEST(Data Entry Skill Test) is conducted separately on the same day.

  2. Translation from local language to English Multiple Choice Questions (10 Local Language words closest meaning in English words to be identified) (15 Questions of 1 Mark Each)
  3. Letter writing in local language(1 to be attempted out of 3 options) [10 Marks]
  4. Paragraph/abord essay in the local language of 80 to 100 words(1 to be attempted out of 3 options) [10 Marks]
PAPER III [15 Minutes]

Paper III is Data Entry Skill Test(DEST). The maximum mark of this paper is 25. It is a skill test of data entry for 15 minutes on a computer on the same day (Date entry of 1200 key depressions).

Educational Qualification: SSC 10th Pass
Max. Age - 50 Years
Year of Service - 3 Years
GDS to MTS Salary: 20,000 to 25,000 Approximately.

GDS to Postman/Mail Guard:

Educational Qualification: SSC 10th Pass
Max. Age - 50 Years
Year of Service - 5 Years
GDS to Postman/Mail Guard Salary: 25,000 to 30,000 Approximately.

GDS to Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant:

Educational Qualification: SSC 12th Pass
Max. Age - 30 Years
Year of Service - 5 Years
GDS to MTS Salary: 30,000 to 35,000 Approximately.
