Indian Geography: Latitudes and Longitudes
In this article, we study what is latitude and longitude. We also study what is Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere.

India is in Northern Hemisphere. The latitudinal extension of India is between 8 Degree 4 Minutes to 37 Degree 6 Minutes.

The tropic of cancer is present at 23.5 Degree North from the Equator and The tropic of Capricorn is present at 23.5 Degree South from the Equator.

The sun rays are straight on the area between the Tropic of cancer and Tropic of Capricorn. The sun's rays become oblique after tropic of cancer towards the north pole. Similarly, The sun's rays become oblique after the tropic of Capricorn towards the south pole.

Equator: 

The Equator is an imaginary line in the middle of the earth. It divides the earth into Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere. It is a 0-degree latitude line.

Latitudes :

It is a horizontal imaginary parallel line to the Equator. Latitude is an angle which ranges from 0 Degree to 90 Degree at the poles.

Longitudes :

Longitudes are imaginary lines that run vertically around the earth. It meets at North and South Poles.

Northern Hemisphere:

The Part of the Earth above the Equator is called as Northern Hemisphere.

Southern Hemisphere:

The Part of the Earth below the Equator is called as Southern Hemisphere.
