Formation of Indian National Congress
In this article, I give you the Formation of Indian National Congress PPT. I also provide you short notes about this topic.

Indian National Congress History:

After the revolt of 1857, between 1870 and 1880 several political organizations were formed. Some of them are Puna Sarwajanik Sabha, Indian Association, Madras Mahajan Sabha, Bombay Presidency Association, etc...

Whatever organization was formed before Indian National Congress, it was made as a National Organization, but it was limited to resolving the issues around it.

On the other side, the British were imposing laws and rules. Now there was a need for such an organization that could put the issues of India in front of the British in their own language.

Founder of Indian National Congress:

The Founder of the Indian National Congress is Mr. A. O. Hume who is a retired civil service officer in British Government.

Gopal Krishna Gokhale had said that if an Englishman did not start this party, then these British would suppress this party.

Lord Dufferin who was Viceroy of India from 1884 to 1888 wanted that When the anger increases in the recruits at the ground level, then the leaders of the Indian National Congress listen to them and their anger is reduced.

And if the anger does not subside, then they should send their demands to the British so that they can be stopped before any major rebellion takes place.

Formation of Indian National Congress:

In December 1884, Mr. Hume called a private meeting in Madras and 17 people were invited to this meeting. It was done in this that let's make a national organization, which was named as Indian National Congress.

At starting, the objective of the Indian National Congress is that all the educated people joined the Indian National Congress and political dialogue was started between Britishers and Educated peoples. 

In the last 3 days of December next year, It was decided that all the educated people who wanted to join the Indian National Congress came to Pana, and further strategy was discussed. But cholera was spread in puna so the place of meeting was shifted to Mumbai.


The first session of the Congress was held in Gokuldas Tejpal  Sanskrit College, Mumbai. Mr. A. O. Hume took its permission from Lord Dufferin before the session. It had a total of 72 members. Most of the people were lawyers in the session.

Mr. A. O. Hume was the first to tell what is objective of the Indian National Congress.

1.Congress will have 1 session in the last 3 days every year.
2.A president will be elected by voting at the beginning of the session
3.Issues of national importance will be discussed in every session.
4.Resolutions will be passed on the issues discussed.
5.For the next one year, Congress will follow those resolutions, will talk to the British, and will try to get their demands.

Indian National Congress First President:

Vyomesh Chandra Banerjee became the president of the first session of the Congress, which was a very big lawyer at that time. A total of 9 resolutions were passed in the first session.
