Indian Peninsular Plateau

In this article, we discuss Indian Peninsular Plateau and also give you short notes on the peninsular plateau.

A part of the land surrounded by water from three sides is known as a peninsula. The Indian peninsula is the largest and oldest physiographic division of India.

What is Plateau?

An upland whose average height is more than 600 feet with a flat and broad top is known as a plateau.

The peninsular plateau is triangular in shape. Its base is parallel to the Ganga Valley and its apex pointing toward the southern tip of the country.

It is a hard old mass of igneous and metamorphic rocks. Actually, it is a part of a tectonic plate called the Gondwanaland.

This is bordered by the Eastern Ghats in the East, the Western Ghats in the west, and Satpura, Maikal range, and Mahadeo Hills in the North.

The peninsular plateau is divided into the following plateaus -

1.Malwa Plateau

2.Bundelkhand Plateau

3.Baghelkhand Plateau

4.Chotanagpur Plateau

5..Shilong Plateau

6.Deccan Plateau

7.Dandakaranya Plateau
