After the failure of the First Round Table, the British Government understood that without Congress it was useless to discuss the Constitutive Points.

Therefore the British government signed the Gandhi-Irwin Pact with Gandhiji on 5 March 1931. With this, now the Congress has also agreed to send its representation for the second round table conference.

The second round table conference is attended by Gandhiji.

The Second Round Table Conference started in London in September 1931. This lasted from September 1931 to December 1931.

A few weeks before the second round table, there was a change of government in England.

When the First Round Table Conference was held, the Labor Party was in power and at the time of the Second Round Table Conference, there was a Coalition Party government.

Despite the change of government, the Prime Minister was Ramsay MacDonald. Ramsay Macdonald was still the chairman of the second round table.

The following parties participated in the Second Round Table Conference -

In the second round table conference, the points given below were discussed -

The main topic discussed in the second round table conference is a separate electorate.

Muslims, Depressed Classes, Christians, Anglo Indians were all demanding a separate electorate.

Dr. B. r. Ambedkar wanted that Untouchables should also be given a separate electorate while Gandhiji was against it.

Gandhiji said that he considers Untouchables to be a part of Hindu society, then what is the need for a separate electorate. Giving a separate electorate to Untouchables would mean separating them from Hindu society.

Everyone was demanding a separate electorate in the second round table conference, but no one had any idea of how the seats would be divided.

The Second Round Table Conference got stuck in all these fights and failed.
