Battle of Buxar 1764

In this article, we discuss the battle of buxar 1764 and its causes and consequences for various competitive exams such as UPSC, SSC, etc...

The East India Company defeated Siraj-ud-din with the help of Mir Zafar and made Mir Jafar the Nawab of Bengal.

Mir Zafar was acting as a puppet of the East India Company. He was fulfilling all demands of the Company.

Mir Zafar joined the hat with the Dutch East India Company to get rid of the British East India Company.

Seeing the Dutch East India Company's troops coming to Bengal, the British East India Company sent its troops to Chinsurah, which was only a short distance from Calcutta.

In 1759, the Battle of Chinsurah took place here between the Dutch and the British East India Company. Here the Dutch East India Company was defeated.

Now Robert Clive replaced Mir Zafar and made Mir Qasim the new Nawab of Bengal so that he could listen to all his words.

At first, Mir Kasim kept fulfilling the demands of the Britishers, but later he understood that if I continue to obey them like this, then the treasury of Bengal will end.

In 1970, Robert Clive went back to his home country of England. The British government gave him a good welcome. Oxford College also gave him a doctorate degree.

Mir Qasim was upset with the Demands of the Britishers. The British also started interfering in the work of Mir Qasim.

So Mir Qasim shifted his capital from Murshidabad to Munger. Munger is a part of Bihar today. The purpose of shifting the capital was to make some distance from the Britishers. Munger was about 320 km away from Murshidabad.

Mir Qasim called military experts from outside countries and got his soldiers trained.

Mir Qasim thought that if the Britishers suffer loss in their business, they will automatically leave the country. That's why he made tax zero for everyone in Bengal before other traders had to pay tax up to 40%.

The British East India Company did not like this talk of Mir Qasim. After this, there were 3 small fights between these two.

Mir Qasim sought help from Suja ud Din Doulah, the Nawab of Awadh, and the Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II.

These three reached Buxar with their army and the Britishers also reached with the army.

Robert Clive had gone to England at that time, so Hector Munro was handling the command of 10,000 soldiers of the Britishers.

The Battle of Buxar would have hardly lasted 3 to 4 hours, Mir Qasim ran away from him in the middle.

The Mughal Emperor Shah Alami and the Nawab of Awadh surrendered. The Battle of Buxar was easily won by the Britishers.

Robert Clive returned to India in 1765. As soon as he came to India, he called Shah Alam II and his companions to Allahabad to sign the treaty.

Robber Clive signed the Treaty of Allahabad with Shal Alam II and Suja ud din Doulah.

After the Battle of Buxar, Awadh came under the control of the East India Company. Robber Clive said that he would give back Awadh to Suja Ud Din but instead he would have to give Kora and Allahabad.

Robber Clive also took 50 lakhs as compensation for the battle of buxar. Robert Cleve also offered to Suja Ud Din that now you do not need to keep your army, we will give you protection but instead of that, you have to pay the monthly fee.

Robert Clive gave Kora and Allahabad to Shah Alam II and in return took the Diwani rights of Bengal, Orissa, and Bihar.

The Diwani rights meant that from now on the British East India Company was going to collect the entire tax collection of Begal, Bihar and Orissa.
