The Third Anglo Maratha War took place between the Britishers and the Marathas between 1817 and 1818.
Pindaris were attached to Maratha armies as mercenaries. Mercenaries mean these people did not take any fee from Marathas but when they won the battle, they used to rob that place. Pindaris were made of many castes and classes.
After the Second Anglo-Maratha War, the Marathas had become quiet weeks. The control of the East India Company was increasing over them.
Pindaris could not get regular employment from marathas, so, they started plundering neighboring territories, including those of Nizam, Carnatic, Malabar and British East India Company.
Troubled by this, Lord Hastings of the British East India Company attacked Pindaris. The attack on Pindaris was an attack on Soveriganti of Maratha and this is the first reason for the Third Anglo Maratha War.
The subsidiary alliance treaty which was signed at the end of the Second Anglo-Maratha War. Because of that, the British East India Company had made residency in the capital of each of the Maratha chiefs.
The people who lived in this residency kept an eye on the Maratha chiefs so that there was no conspiracy.
Peshwa had to surrender his minister to British East India Company. In June 1817, the British East India Company signed the Treaty of Poona with the Peshwa.
With this treaty, the British East India Company took over most of the territory of the Peshwa. This was the second reason of the Third Anglo Mysore War.
All the Marathas together started preparing secretly to war with the British East India Company.
The British East India Company signed the Treaty of Gwalior in which the British East India Company took Scindia against Pindaris.
Bajirao II set the poone residency on fire, and with this the Third Anglo-Maratha War started in November 1817.
Marathas lost against the British India Company and signed the Treaty of Manadasor with the Holkars. Bajirao surrendered in June 1818.
