The Lahore Kingdom was afraid that the British East India Company might attack them.

Lord Hardinge was the Governor-General of the British East India Company in 1845. The British East India Company sent its troops to the banks of the Sutlej River in 1000's.

Seeing the British troops, some soldiers of the Sikh Army crossed the river Sutlej. In view of this, the British East India Company attacked the Sikh Empire in December 1845.

The Sikh Army had to face defeat in the First Anglo-Sikh War. This war started in December 1845 and ended in March 1846.

This war ended with the Treaty of Lahore in March 1846. Under this treaty, a British Resident was setup in Lahore under Henry Lawrence.

Apart from this, the British East India Company also took some money from the Sikh Empire for war damages.

Some Sikhs were not happy because of this treaty and they rebeled. The British suppressed this rebellion and a new treaty named Treaty of Bhaironwal was signed.

Here QueenJindal Kaur was removed from the post of Regent. A pension of Rani Jindal was fixed and she was sent to Banaras.

A Regency Council was formed under British Resident Henry Lawrence. Here 8 Sikh leaders were kept under Henry Lawrence. Queen Jindal was replaced by this regency council.
